As I wrap up the first week of the #75HardChallenge, I'm filled with a sense of accomplishment, self-discovery, and a burning determination to see this program through. This challenge has been a significant eye-opener, teaching me about my own capabilities and the effort required to achieve the results I desire. Before delving into the week-by-week breakdown, let's first outline the tasks I've committed to during this challenge.
75 Hard Challenge Tasks
To give you an overview of the challenge and my personal choices for each task, here's a quick rundown:
Drink one gallon of water: I use a one-gallon jug with time markers to stay on track.
Read 10 pages of a non-fiction personal development book: I've chosen three books that align with my goals, including "The Premed Playbook: Guide to the Medical School Personal Statement" by Dr. Ryan Gray.
Take a progress picture: I wear the same outfit for consistency.
Follow a diet with no cheat meals or alcohol: I opted for a low-carb, clean eating approach.
Two 45-minute workouts, one outdoors: I follow a workout plan through the 1st Phorm app.
The Diet Dilemma
Before diving into the day-by-day breakdown, let's address the dietary aspect of this challenge. It initially appeared daunting, but Andy Frisella's advice clarified what "following a diet" truly means. It's about choosing a diet that you can maintain and adhere to rigorously. There are numerous ways to achieve this, and I settled on a clean, portion-controlled, and low-carb approach. While I do miss indulging in candies and junk food, the goal is not just to complete the challenge but to undergo lasting personal change.
Now, let's get into the nitty-gritty of my first week!
Day 1: A Bold Beginning
The first day of the challenge filled me with motivation and determination. I embarked on a list of tasks for the day, in addition to the 75 Hard requirements. I kept my to-do list relatively short to ensure I stayed on track. Despite feeling like I had ample free time, the reality check came when I took my first progress picture. It was a stark reminder of why I'd committed to this challenge in the first place. It stung, but it also fueled my resolve.
Day 2: Sore but Determined
Day 2 found me grappling with the consequences of not consistently working out for over six months. Sore muscles, especially on leg day, left me feeling the pain, but I pushed through it. Otherwise, the day was relatively uneventful.
Day 3: Radiant Changes
Day 3 brought about a notable transformation in my skin. It became clearer, smoother, and less dry, and this positive change extended to my entire body. The gallons of water I was drinking appeared to be working their magic. Detoxification was in full swing, making frequent trips to the bathroom a regular occurrence.
Day 4: Boost of Confidence
Day 4's progress picture offered a boost of confidence. I appeared less bloated, and I noticed improvements in my skin's appearance. This motivated me to push harder during my workouts, even though the soreness persisted.
Day 5: Battling a Headache
Day 5 began with an inexplicable headache. Despite a good night's sleep, the morning headache lingered. It disappeared after I started my water intake and reading. It was possibly a caffeine-related headache, as I'd reduced my caffeine consumption. I also embarked on two walks, despite my program suggesting a rest day.
Day 6: Overcoming Challenges
Another morning headache on Day 6 was attributed to PMS, and the early start left me sleepy by the afternoon. However, my mental resolve remained strong. I pushed through, finishing my water intake and workout before an early night's sleep.
Day 7: Moving Forward
As of writing this, I'm on Day 7. The initial soreness has waned, and I've decided to change my workout plan due to another rest day on the horizon. I'm choosing an intermediate program that includes only one rest day, ensuring continued progress.
Lessons Learned
In just one week, I've uncovered profound lessons. Discipline and a willingness to break out of complacency are essential for undertaking and completing this challenge. I've realized that I've been my harshest critic for too long, letting negative thoughts and self-doubt control my actions. By embracing a positive attitude, I've found the strength to persevere, and I'm determined not to quit. While it's only the first week, my commitment is unwavering, and I'm confident I can see this through to Day 75. Remember, the life you desire won't just fall into your lap; you have to seize it with both hands and make it happen.
